Parents Points of Reference

  • YMCA Swimming Lessons are available to children from 6 months of age. Aquatic Industry guidelines do not recommend formal program participation prior to 6 months of age.
  • Students are encouraged to progress at their own pace.
  • Parental Participation is an essential element to the YMCA Infant and Preschool Swimming Lesson program.
  • Progression through the program does not always correspond with the student’s age.
  • Skills gained in a controlled pool environment may be significantly compromised in open water environments.
  • Irrespective of the aquatic skills and experiences developed by students in the YMCA Swimming Lessons program, the YMCA urges parents and carers to actively supervise children at all times when in, on or near water.

Mill Park Leisure is a ‘Watch Around Water’ centre. For more information on this initiative and active supervision please click here.
