Designed to cater for all ages and
abilities, YMCA Swimming Lessons offer participants a unique opportunity to
develop essential aquatic life skills and engage in an environment that promotes
team work & a sense of belonging.
The program is underpinned by a framework of developmental
assets that emphasizes the importance of Physical, Intellectual and Personal
Development. Aquatic Education participants will experience stroke development,
water safety education, open water simulation and opportunities to establish or
further improve personal skills such as communication, problem solving &
Our aim is to deliver quality Swimming Lessons that are fun and
educational for the students and our Swimming Teachers
all hold industry standard qualifications including: AustSwim – Teacher of Swimming & Water
Safety, First Aid Level 2 & CPR and a
Working with Children Check.
To enrol in our Swimming Lessons,
participants are first required to book in for an assessment with our Teacher In
Charge to ensure that they are placed into the correct level.
Assessments are available between 4pm and 6pm
Monday – Thursday. For weekend assessment times please call the
- YMCA Swimming Lessons are available to children from 6 months of age.
Aquatic Industry guidelines do not recommend formal program participation prior
to 6 months of age.
- Students are encouraged to progress at their own pace.
- Parental Participation is an essential element to
the YMCA Infant and Preschool Swimming Lesson program.
- Progression through the program does not always correspond with
the student’s age.
- Skills gained in a controlled pool environment may be
significantly compromised in open water environments.
- Irrespective of the aquatic skills and experiences developed by
students in the YMCA Swimming Lessons program, the YMCA urges parents and carers
to actively supervise children at all times when in, on or near
Mill Park Leisure is a ‘Watch Around Water’ centre. For more
